The Big Picture
Healthcare took the hit that defined this session. A 1.14% drop in the sector was the single biggest drag on the S&P 500, which slipped 0.16% while the Dow fell 0.55% and small caps (Russell 2000) shed 0.59%. Tech was the exception — the Nasdaq 100 edged up 0.10%, holding its ground as money rotated away from everything else. Bonds aren't offering much shelter either. Long-dated Treasuries sold off, with the 20-year ETF down 0.75% — meaning yields on the long end are rising, which adds pressure to rate-sensitive stocks like utilities, down 0.51%. Crude oil bucked the trend, gaining 1.25%, giving energy the session's best sector return at +0.45%. Crypto caught a bid too — Bitcoin at $65,265, Ethereum up 2.19%. The CNN Fear & Greed Index sits at 38 — Fear. Equities drifting, bonds selling, defensive sectors underperforming. The market isn't panicking, but it's not buying either.
