The Big Picture
Gold and silver are up over 4.5% each at midday — that's the story. Metals at that magnitude usually signal one thing: investors are hedging against something. The dollar is softening, the euro is catching a bid, and long-duration Treasuries are ticking higher. The pieces fit a mild flight-to-safety narrative, but "mild" is doing a lot of work here — a 4.5% single-session move in gold is not mild. The equity picture is split. The Dow is up 0.79%, carried by healthcare's 1.01% gain and rotation into value. But the Nasdaq 100 is down 0.38%, tech is lagging, and energy is off 1.52% as crude slips. The S&P 500 is essentially flat at +0.07% — the two halves of the market are canceling each other out. The tension: CNN Fear & Greed sits at 60 — Greed — while gold is flashing a very different signal. That divergence doesn't resolve itself quietly. Either metals are overreacting, or equities haven't caught up yet. This is not financial advice. Acid Capitalist is a financial news and commentary site — not a registered financial adviser.
