The Big Picture
This was a rotation, not a retreat. Technology fell 1.78% and dragged the Nasdaq 100 down 1%. The money did not leave the market though. It moved. Financials gained 1.29%, utilities 1.05%, and the Dow closed up 0.27%. Long Treasuries rose 0.62%, which means long yields eased, a tailwind for the dividend payers investors were buying. Gold added 0.79% while crude fell 1.8%, taking energy stocks down 0.83% with it. The dollar firmed 0.33%. Here is the tension. CNN's Fear and Greed Index still reads 55, squarely in greed, and Bitcoin climbed 1.91% to $78,892 while stocks sagged. Neither of those looks like fear. That makes this a positioning shift rather than a scare, and it holds only while yields keep drifting lower.Fear & Greed Index
