The Big Picture

Tech did all the heavy lifting. The technology sector surged 3.16%, dragging the Nasdaq 100 up 1.37% while the Dow managed just 0.19%. That gap is the story: this was not a broad rally, it was a crowded one. Money came out of the safe corners to pay for it. Healthcare fell 1.13%, utilities 0.76%, financials 0.65%. Long bonds slipped as yields ticked up, and the dollar firmed 0.21%. Risk appetite showed up in crypto too, where Solana jumped 12.87% and Bitcoin cleared $80,000. The tension: breadth. Russell 2000 small caps added only 0.29%, and Fear and Greed sits at 58, already leaning greedy. When one sector carries the tape, it only takes one bad print in that sector to take it back.
