What If?
If you had put $1,000 into Crude Oil yesterday, you'd have $1,030.80 today.
The Big Picture
Oil ran the session. Crude jumped 3.08%, natural gas added 2.03%, and energy stocks rose 2.04%. Everything else paid for it: the S&P 500 slipped 0.3%, the Dow fell 0.65%, and the Russell 2000 dropped 0.62%. Higher energy costs feed inflation expectations, and the bond market noticed. Long Treasuries fell 0.43%, which means yields rose. That hurt utilities most, down 1.17%, because those stocks are owned for their dividends and compete directly with bonds. Financials lost 0.67%. Tech ignored all of it, up 0.44%, which kept the Nasdaq 100 flat. The dollar firmed 0.34% and gold went nowhere, so this is not a fear trade. Fear and Greed sits at exactly 50. The question is whether crude holds the gain. If it does, the rate cut math gets harder.Fear & Greed Index
