The Big Picture
The selling was concentrated, not broad. Healthcare fell 2.52% and financials fell 1.38%, and because both sit heavy in the Dow, that index dropped 1.13% while the Nasdaq 100 finished nearly flat at down 0.08%. The S&P 500 landed in between at down 0.55%. Tech gained 0.32%. Crude oil jumped 2.87% and carried energy stocks up 1.11%, the best sector of the day. Gold fell 1.73% at the same time, which matters: on a genuine risk-off day gold catches a bid. It didn't. Treasuries barely moved, with TLT down 0.01%. Money shifted between sectors rather than out of stocks. Bitcoin slipped 0.83% to $78,540. CNN's Fear and Greed Index sits at 41, in Fear.
