The Big Picture

Buyers showed up across the board and nobody needed a catalyst. All four major indices closed green, with the Dow up 0.97% and technology the best sector at 1.32%. Financials added 0.67%, so this was more than a handful of megacaps doing the work. Crude oil fell 2.2%, the largest move anywhere on the board. Money came out of the safe corners: utilities lost 0.31% and healthcare 0.18%. Bonds sat out entirely, long Treasuries up just 0.11%. Gold rose 0.61% and silver 1.08% even as the dollar index firmed to 99.17, an odd pairing. The tension: the Fear and Greed Index sits at 33, still in Fear, and the Russell 2000 managed only 0.41%. Rallies that leave small caps behind and sentiment cold usually need a second day to prove themselves.
