The Daily Digest

What If?

If you had put $1,000 into Crude Oil yesterday, you'd have $1,033.00 today.

The Big Picture

Bond yields did the damage. The 20Y Treasury ETF fell 1.58% and its inverse, TBT, jumped 2.75%: long rates pushed higher all session. When money gets more expensive, the assets that need cheap money fall first. The Russell 2000 dropped 1.84%, utilities lost 1.92%, and the S&P 500 gave up 0.72%. Crude oil was the exception, up 3.3%, dragging Energy to a 0.95% gain and the only sector in the green. Higher oil with higher yields argues inflation, not growth. Gold fell 1.8% and silver 4.23% even as stocks sold off, so this was not a flight to safety. It was a dollar bid, with DXY up 0.48%. Crypto took the widest cuts, Bitcoin down 2.22% and Cardano off 5.71%. Fear and Greed sits at 35. The level that settles this: whether crude holds its 3.3% gain into the next session.
