The Big Picture
The selling started in metals and spread. Silver dropped 5.49% and gold 3.94%, the two biggest moves on the board, and equities offered no shelter: the S&P 500 fell 0.74%, the Nasdaq 100 1.07%, the Dow 0.67% and the Russell 2000 0.69%. Long bonds went with them. TLT, the fund that holds 20-year Treasuries, lost 0.88%, which means long-dated yields rose. The dollar index gained 0.11% to 101.09. Financials were the weakest sector at -1.19% and technology fell 0.89%, while only healthcare, up 0.33%, and energy, up 0.10%, closed higher. Crude was the day's other exception, up 1.13%. Crypto followed stocks down, bitcoin off 1.28% to $83,482. CNN's Fear and Greed Index sits at 34, in Fear.
