The Big Picture

Technology did the work. The Nasdaq 100 rose 1.02% and the tech sector gained 1.01%, while financials added 0.06% and healthcare finished flat at minus 0.01%. That left the S&P 500 up 0.74% and the Dow up 0.49%. Small caps kept up, with the Russell 2000 up 0.9%. The dollar firmed, with the Dollar Index up 0.35% to 102.08 and EUR/USD down 0.65% to 1.1225. Hard assets gave ground against it: gold down 0.68%, silver down 0.51%, crude down 1.77%. Natural gas went the other way, up 3.05%. Crypto did not join the equity bid. Ethereum fell 1.32% to $2,661 and Cardano dropped 3.4%. CNN's Fear and Greed Index reads 31 at the close, still Fear. Watch whether anything outside tech picks up the load.
