The Big Picture

Money moved out of tech and into almost everything else. Technology fell 1.22%, the weakest of the five sectors tracked here, and that drag pulled the Nasdaq 100 down 0.7% while the Dow rose 0.35%. The S&P 500 split the difference and finished down 0.06%, effectively unchanged. Crude did the heavy lifting on the other side. Oil rose 1.91% and the energy sector gained 1.43%. Financials added 0.58%, healthcare 0.69%, utilities 0.53%. The dollar index firmed 0.2% to 102.39, and metals gave way: gold down 0.63%, silver down 0.79%. Risk appetite thinned at the edges. Bitcoin slipped 0.73% to $83,015 and the smaller coins fell harder, with Cardano down 4.02%. Treasuries barely moved. Watch whether crude holds its gain: it is the only thing paying for the rotation.
