The Big Picture
This is a tech selloff, not a market selloff. The Nasdaq 100 fell 2.86% and the technology sector dropped 3.29%, while the Dow finished up 0.04% and the Russell 2000 up 0.07%. The S&P 500's 1.18% loss is mostly the weight of its biggest tech names. Money did not leave the market, it moved. Utilities gained 2.07%, healthcare 1.32%, financials 1.09%. Long Treasuries caught a bid, with TLT up 1.87%. Metals broke the pattern: silver fell 5.59% and gold 2.63%, and crypto went with them, Bitcoin down 4.11% to $81,154. That is not fear buying. That is leverage coming off wherever it sits. CNN's Fear and Greed Index reads 20, Extreme Fear. Watch whether the defensive bid holds or follows tech lower.Fear & Greed Index
