The Big Picture
One sector did the work. Technology closed up 1.69% and pulled the Nasdaq 100 up 1.11%, while the S&P 500 added 0.71% and the Dow managed 0.31%. The gap between those numbers is the story: strip out tech and the session was close to flat. Outside tech the board was quiet. Long Treasuries caught a bid, with TLT, the 20-year Treasury ETF, up 0.42%. Crude oil fell 1.95%, the biggest move of the session, though energy shares still closed up 0.45%. Gold added 0.33% and silver slipped 0.12%. The dollar index rose 0.13% and USD/JPY reached 157.45. Crypto did not join in. Bitcoin fell 0.2% to $80,066 and Ethereum lost 0.91% to $2,311.
