The Big Picture
Oil is the story. The USO crude ETF fell 6.66%, and the energy sector dropped 3.23% with it. That single move splits the market in two: cheaper fuel is a cost cut for banks, industrials and consumers, so financials rose 2.0% and the Dow added 0.93%, while energy producers took the hit. Tech went the other way, down 1.52%, which left the Nasdaq 100 down 0.12% even as the S&P 500 added 0.24% and the Russell 2000 gained 0.39%. Gold rose 1.85% and silver 2.47%, the dollar index slipped 0.23%, and crypto sold off with Bitcoin down 1.22% to $76,903.
