The Big Picture
Tech did all the work. Technology up 1.29% pulled the Nasdaq 100 up 0.67% and kept the S&P 500 up 0.31%, while the Dow fell 0.46%. Strip out tech and the session was red. Every other sector in the data lost ground: energy down 0.85%, financials down 0.64%, utilities down 0.57%. Long bonds sold off, with TLT down 0.74%, which means long-term yields rose. Higher yields and a firmer dollar, up 0.25%, hit metals: gold down 0.66%, silver down 1.63%. Crypto ignored all of it, with bitcoin up 1.52% to $77,893. The tension: CNN's Fear & Greed Index sits at 19, Extreme Fear, on a day the S&P 500 closed higher. Breadth, not the index level, is telling the real story.
